The Sickle Cell Care program has been in existence since 2011. It started as a small clinic with just a few staff limited within the confines of MTRH under the umbrella of AMPATH establishments.

The program provides among many others Sickle Cell diagnostics, Newborn Screening, Medications, Education and training to the parents and patients as well as the health professionals including the wider community.

Outreach & Screening Program


Our outreach program seeks to reach out to the communities by creating awareness, education and prevention of breast, cervical, Lymphomas, lung cancer and multiple myeloma. This program works in collaboration with various institutions and stakeholders as it focuses on primary, secondary and tertiary prevention. It works hand in hand with the population health department to sensitize the public on the importance of taking health insurance (NHIF).

The program organizes for mass screenings, early diagnosis and link to treatment for those found to be having symptoms that point to cancer.

Multiple Myeloma Program


Multiple Myeloma program began in 2013 January. Through the support from Celgene corporation the department has been offering Clinical care to multiple myeloma patients which includes treatment, routine follow up, and support group.

The program has been creating awareness on multiple myeloma targets in multiple myeloma patients and caretakers and also health care professional.  Pharmacovigilance is also a key area that the program facilitates to MM patients to ensure chemotherapy safety at all times.
